Gesture is a feminist press. We publish books and moonlight as a journal when the mood strikes.
We do what we want. We take up space. We are punk as fuck feminists.
Gesture is committed to publishing work that doesn’t bind or confine us. We love prose, poetry, essays, plays, visual work, and performance.
Our History
Founded in 2011, Gesture began as a print journal that became an online journal so we could put our meager funds toward becoming a press. We published an experimental novel, then chapbooks, and now we primarily publish books. We are focused on expanding our current catalog into digital offerings. Soon we will release new materials.
Our staff has cycled throughout the years, and we’re so grateful for all of their amazing work. Much love to Lindsay King-Miller, Ian Rummell, Rebecca Howard, Ellie Swensson, Sally Seck, Brenna Lee, and Kara Miller.
These days, founding editor, Heather Goodrich, runs the press solo. Depending on the project, she will often partner with the very talented designer, HR Hegnauer. A very special shout out to HR for elevating the caliber and quality for every project she worked on with Gesture.
